TOLLGATEBRAMBER

A new road begins

The tollgate has always been a threshold. A deliberate pause before the road changes. You cross it intentionally, and you pay your toll: your time, your attention, your presence.

Every other place says escape. We say arrive. We've come to believe that the most nourishing places don't force you to restore yourself. They're simply worth arriving at.

Tollgate and the road through Bramber has had travellers stopping on it for a thousand years, which tells you something, not about the building, but about this particular corner of Sussex. Some places are just worth pausing at. This is one of them.
